Graham Hill completed 90 laps. On lap 88, Hill spun off the track because of a patch of oil and stalled his car. He push started it but was unable to fasten his harness by himself. Before he made it back to the pit to replace a rear tire, it exploded and the car cartwheeled into an embankment. Hill was thrown and broke both legs.
